Toro Rosso, Kvyat: “STR11 set on Carlos, but I managed to get out of it”

In an interview given to Autosport, Daniil Kvyat spoke again about his arrival at Toro Rosso in May, explaining that he found himself in a very difficult situation given the many developments made ad-hoc for Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard, we remember, was in the team from the beginning of the season and the Scuderia Faenza was clearly carrying forward the developments following the instructions of Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen. Once the Dutchman left, the Spaniard found himself in control of the entire team and the Russian, demoted from the parent team, suffered a lot from this situation. Since the Singapore Grand Prix, however, the situation has improved considerably and Kvyat, despite the initial difficulties, has managed to compete often with the son of the great "Matador".

Here are the words of Daniil Kvyat: “I worked with Daniel (Ricciardo.ndr) and in a certain sense I feel on the same level as him. I was less consistent than him and had less understanding of the car, but in terms of performance we were very similar. Arriving at Toro Rosso was not easy: the car was set to Carlos' indications and his driving level was very high. I had no feeling with the car and being in a new environment didn't help me. However, I managed to get to the bottom of it and towards the end of the season I often fought with him.

“I don't know what Red Bull will do for the future, but sooner or later choices will have to be made” he concluded.
