Negotiations with Ferrari are also progressing, although the latter would like to confirm the terms of the agreement signed last winter

The idea of the Japanese engine engineer would be to support another development team with McLaren, so as to double the collection of data during tests and race weekends
Toro Rosso interested in Honda power units for the 2017 season

According to reports from the German newspaper Auto Motor Und Sport, Toro Rosso has already started negotiations with Honda regarding the supply of power units for next season.

The Scuderia di Faenza, currently on track with the Ferrari power units from last season, is apparently looking for a valid alternative to the Maranello company to have an engine package updated to the specifications of the next championship.

Despite the requests made by Franz Tost, in fact, the Maranello Scuderia would like to confirm the contract signed during the last winter and therefore supply the small Italian Scuderia with the units currently in use in the SF16Hs of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.

A point on which Toro Rosso absolutely does not agree, given that the total lack of updates is blocking the growth of the current STR11. Toro Rosso, precisely in this sense, would be looking for a new partner for 2017, so as to incorporate a power unit with specifications in line with its direct competitors for the world championship into the design phase of the new car.

With a possible negotiation with Renault ruled out at the moment (maximum commitment towards its own official team and the Red Bull team under the Tag Heuer name), Honda could prove to be a valid alternative to the Italian engine manufacturer for 2017.

Among other things, the Japanese brand would like a second Scuderia in addition to Mclaren to accelerate the development of the hybrid unit and Toro Rosso, being a cutting-edge structure with regards to track activities, could be very convenient, especially in terms of harvests data.
