Toro Rosso, still a lot of work to do in Singapore

Ricciardo optimistic, Vergne's "first" at Marina Bay

Toro Rosso, still a lot of work to do in Singapore

Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne have completed the first day of free practice for Toro Rosso in Singapore. The Australian finished Friday in 14th position while the Frenchman did not go higher than 18th.

“This is a unique track, after the first session I chatted to Jean-Eric and we both said we were having fun!” Ricciardo said. “I think the first session went better than the second and the changes made before Free Practice 2 didn't seem suited to the evolution of the track. We need to understand what can be done to get closer to the top 10 like in the first session. But trying different things, whether they work or not, is part of Friday. As for the tyres, the supersofts are naturally faster, while the softs are obviously more consistent on long runs."

“This is undoubtedly the most difficult circuit I have faced this season, with so many corners and so much heat” added Vergne. “I really enjoyed racing on a street circuit at night, but early on I made a lot of mistakes on what is a really long lap. However, I'm getting used to it, I brought the car to the pits in one piece and I know that I will improve tomorrow. Overall, the car wasn't bad, so I think I can improve a bit over the rest of the weekend."
