Tonio Liuzzi hired by HRT

The HRT team has confirmed that Vitantonio Liuzzi will be the second driver in the 2011 Formula 1 season. Liuzzi was on the market after losing his seat at Force India at the end of 2010 to Paul Di Resta. The Italian tested HRT in Barcelona last month and has now finally signed for the Spanish team.

“I am really happy to have signed this agreement with Hispania Racing” declared Liuzzi. “I never lost hope of being in Formula 1, I knew I had the experience and the right attributes for a young and ambitious team. I'm taking on a new challenge and that's exciting. I also have a lot of work ahead of me to lead HRT in the development program of the new car. I am extremely grateful to Jose Ramon Carabante and Colin Kolles for giving me this opportunity” commented Liuzzi.

Kolles said he is convinced that the Italian driver's experience is a great added value for HRT: "I have known Tonio for many years and he raced with me in the minor categories" he explained. “He is a very professional driver who will bring many benefits to the team. I am convinced of his ability to develop the car and its speed."

Liuzzi will have Narain Karthikeyan as his partner. The team also confirmed that it will present the new HRT F111 on Friday in Barcelona.
