Todt on the 2017 regulation: “New rules approved at the end of the month”

Faster single-seaters than the current ones are expected

Todt on the 2017 regulation: “New rules approved at the end of the month”

From next year F1 will have new technical regulations. Among the new features planned are single-seaters that are faster than five seconds per lap, the Halo (the device brought to the track by Ferrari during the winter tests in Barcelona to protect the drivers' heads from possible impacts or debris) and tires with 18" rims (although Paul Hembery has held back on this possibility without conducting tests).

According to what we learn from the president of the FIA, Jean Todt, the new rules will be approved at the end of the month. In reality, the original deadline was scheduled for February 29th, but everything was delayed due to discussions relating to the engines and the aerodynamic modifications to be made to the single-seaters.

"The final regulations will be ratified on April 30 – said Todt quoted by Autosport –. In the last meeting we had I asked the engine manufacturers to reduce the price of their engines, so that each team has the possibility of having an engine supplied. They were also asked to further increase the sound of the power units".

"There was a wish – continued the Frenchman –  to make the cars much faster next year, although drivers are skeptical that the cars can be faster.  The improvement in lap time will occur thanks to mechanical grip and aerodynamic load. All this will not affect the track handling of a single-seater that is behind another".
