Todt pushes for KERS return to Formula 1
Jean Todt has played down rumors that he intends to remain as president of the FIA for a single term. The Frenchman was elected last year to succeed Max Mosley and his presidency so far has been praised for its lack of controversy. But according to some news that broke at the beginning of the year, Todt is planning to leave the Federation at the end of his mandate in 2013.
“This is not true,” he told the latest edition of the German publication Auto Motor und Sport.
“However, I am already not thinking about my second term. My priority is to use my time as effectively as possible to achieve my goals.
These include the introduction of a new engine regulation in 2013 and the return of KERS as soon as possible.
“I'm not happy that the teams voted unanimously against using KERS in 2010,” Todt said. “I am personally committed to reviewing this position for 2011.”
The Frenchman said it was not acceptable to have to wait until 2013 to implement a new strategy for the KERS to accompany the smaller, more efficient engines that will be introduced.
“We can't afford to wait two and a half years without doing anything,” Todt said of the auto industry's pursuit of new, clean technologies.
“As president of the FIA I must push in this direction. It's the only way we can be credible.”
