Theissen: Vettel will win more championships
Mario Theissen speaks, the former director of BMW Motorsport who launched Vettel into the panorama of world competitions by making him debut aboard a single-seater. In 2006, during free practice for the Turkish Grand Prix, Sebastian made his official debut in a Formula One car, achieving the best time of the session.
Theissen compliments his former pupil: “He did a fantastic job, especially in the final phase of the world championship when the pressure was through the roof. He remained calm in difficult times. He was the youngest driver fighting for the title and the one who made the fewest mistakes."
In 2007 Theissen could not guarantee Vettel a seat in BMW, so he was released and his card bought by Red Bull. The leaders of the German company did not forgive Theissen for this mistake. The Mateschitz team then sent Sebastian to Toro Rosso for a one-year run-in, before calling him back in 2009 and building a team around him.
Theissen closes: “Vettel is a top driver, one of the best. There is no doubt that he will win more championships."
