Pirelli F1 test in Abu Dhabi, Ferrari closes in the lead with Alonso

Ferrari also achieved the best time on the second and final day of Pirelli testing in Abu Dhabi. Fernando Alonso set the fastest time today after Felipe Massa did the same yesterday.

Over the course of two days the 12 Formula 1 teams had the opportunity to test the new Pirelli F1 tires for the 2011 season for the first time. Alonso completed 100 laps today, equal to the distance of almost two races.

Michael Schumacher, who struggled to find the feeling with the front in 2010, set the second fastest time, just 156 thousandths behind Alonso.

The German preceded the new world champion Sebastian Vettel who also suffered a puncture today and was forced to stop before midday. Yesterday it was a tire cut while the cause of today's problem has not yet been clarified but it is suspected that it was still debris.

Rubens Barrichello's Williams and Robert Kubica's Renault follow in fourth and fifth position ahead of the McLarens of Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey.

Eighth time for Paul di Resta with Force India who caused a red flag in the morning due to a sensor failure. The Scotsman preceded Kamui Kobayashi's Sauber. Tenth time for Sebastien Buemi's Toro Rosso ahead of Tonio Liuzzi's Force India and Sergio Perez's Sauber.
