F1 Silverstone Test, Day 2: Raikkonen is the fastest

La Ferrari di Kimi Raikkonen signs the second and final day of testing a Silverstone with the best time of 1:30.665, achieved on soft tyre. The Finn has left the Mercedes di Or with – who also today achieved leadership in terms of laps with 139 laps – and the Red Bull di Pierre Gasly. Rain visited the circuit again but with much less intensity than yesterday, thus allowing the teams to complete their work and collect enough data. Even today the teams concentrated on aerodynamic tests while the Pirelli with Wehrlein continued to test the 2017 coverages.

News – The morning saw the Mercedes driven by Esteban Ocon stand out, thanks to the best time of 1:31.212, leaving behind Raikkonen's Ferrari and Gasly's Red Bull, which slipped into third position just before the lunch break. The standings before the break saw Palmer, Vandoorne, Ferrucci, Mazepin, Camara, Wehrlein, Bottas and King behind the leading trio. In terms of laps, the 2014 Mercedes driven by the young German was the leader with 61 laps.

At the restart at 14.30pm Mazepin, Ferrucci and Bottas are the first to leave the pits but the first black clouds are already gathering on the circuit. Within a quarter of an hour the rain breaks out on the track and the drivers immediately return to the pits. This time the forced break does not last long and Gasly is the first to venture back onto the track, followed shortly after by Raikkonen, Vandoorne and Ferrucci. Some people are cautious with the intermediates but after a few laps it is possible to mount the slicks again. The time trial list also undergoes some small changes, except in the top positions, with Ocon firmly followed by Raikkonen and Gasly. Vandoorne moves ahead of Palmer and Ferrucci, Camara overtakes Mazepin and Bottas precedes Wehrlein and King.

Raikkonen improves as he gets closer to Ocon while Force India with the supersoft tires climbs to third place and Ferrucci with the Haas is fifth. With less than 90 minutes to go, Ocon is the first to reach 100 laps. With an hour to go, Ocon doesn't give up the top, followed by Raikkonen, Mazepin, Vandoorne, Ferrucci, Gasly, Palmer, Sette Camara, Bottas, King and Wehrlein. But ten minutes later it was the Ferrari driver who took the lead with the best time of 1:30.665, achieved on the soft compound. Same tire for Bottas' Williams who thus gets the fifth fastest time. In the final stages of the session, the Finn took to the track with the double rear wing.

Kimi's Red car remained in the lead until the checkered flag put an end to the day and proclaimed him the fastest in the Silverstone tests ahead of Ocon, Gasly, Mazepin, Vandoorne, Bottas, Ferrucci, Palmer, Sette Camara, King and Wehrlein .
