F1 test in Bahrain: Rosberg in command in the morning, problems for Alonso

Best time for Nico Rosberg in the morning session of the first day of F1 testing in Bahrain. In the first of the two days of testing the German from Mercedes lapped in the morning in 1.36.171 ahead of Nico Hulkenberg's Force India and Kevin Magnussen's McLaren.

Rosberg completed 68 laps, making him the most active driver. Valtteri Bottas is fourth with Williams, author of 27 laps. The Finnish driver precedes Fernando Alonso's Ferrari, fifth, 1"2 behind Rosberg. The Spaniard caused a red flag early on when he stalled his Ferrari at Turn 2.

Daniel Ricciardo started his program with Red Bull late but ended the morning session with the sixth fastest time, behind Alonso, and 29 laps completed. Seventh time for the Russian from Sauber, Sergey Sirotkin, 3 seconds from the top with 2 laps completed.

Frijns is working with Caterham on experimental Pirelli tires for 2015 and achieved the eighth fastest time, completing 63 laps. Only ninth, with 16 laps completed, was Pastor Maldonado with Lotus. Tenth Daniil Kvyat with Toro Rosso, ahead of Max Chilton. The Marussia driver caused the second interruption of the day, stopped by a technical problem.
