F1 Abu Dhabi test: Vergne in the lead with Red Bull in the morning
Jean-Eric Vergne set the fastest time in the morning session of the first day of the F1 test for young drivers in Abu Dhabi. The Frenchman, at the wheel of Red Bull, lapped in 1.40.707.
Ferrari test driver Jules Bianchi, who like Vergne will lap on all three days, set the second fastest time at almost two seconds with Ferrari concentrating on aerodynamic development work. Bianchi was almost nine tenths faster than Oliver Turvey, who returned to the wheel of McLaren.
Valtteri Bottas with Williams tested an F1 for the first time on a real track since he had previously only performed aerodynamic tests on a straight line. Fourth time for him, busy evaluating the new high exhausts for 2012.
Fabio Leimer at the wheel of Sauber is sixth ahead of Robert Wickens' Renault and Rodolfo Gonzales' Lotus. F1 debuts also for Max Chilton (Force India), Stefano Coletti (Toro Rosso) and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, who will hand over the Virgin steering wheel to Charles Pic in the afternoon.
