It gets off to a bad start return to Formula 1 of the binomial McLaren-Honda, which made entire generations dream. The Woking car, driven by the young Stoffel Vandoorne, failed to deliver not even a lap due to electronic problems, probably with the ERS system, which forced the Mp4-29H 1×1 to remain stationary in the garage. “We are analyzing what happened this morning very carefully because in the worst case scenario it could happen damage the ECU or other things like that, that's why we want to be very safe,” Eric Boullier said.

The afternoon test session on the Yas Marina track started at 11.00 am (Italian) and as the McLaren Racing Director explained in the press conference, the first stints on the track of the British single-seater will be very short and they will go from a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 10 laps: “We must take care of every part that makes up the new engine, with an eye on reliability. Then we will go out on track trying to gradually stress the engine. Only later will it be time to talk about lap times, this is not the time,” he concluded.
