Test in Barcelona: best time for Hamilton

Best time for Lewis Hamilton on the first day of testing in Barcelona. The Englishman from McLaren Mercedes lapped in 1.22.263, six tenths ahead of Fernando Alonso's Renault, which began development of the new R28 despite a stop on the track towards the end of the session.

Robert Kubica achieved the third time, demonstrating that BMW Sauber is solving the balance problems suffered in the first outings of the F1.08 while Nick Heidfeld was fifth. Among them, surprisingly, Giancarlo Fisichella's Force India.

Sixth time for the other McLaren of Gary Paffett. A troubled day for the Englishman with a stop on the track at 10.42, a spin at 12.46 and 14.59, causing three red flags.

Nelson Piquet Jr is seventh. The Brazilian also caused two interruptions due to technical problems with his Renault R28 at 16pm and 17pm.
