Developing the car a little pays off in current F1

As uncertainty continues in F1 with five different winners in five races it could be the driver with the simplest and least developed car who prevails. This is the thesis of the German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport.

“Who brought the fewest updates to the Spanish GP? Lotus and Williams. And who had the fastest cars? Lotus and Williams” reads the article. Both cars would be characterized by a marked ease of driving and set-up.

Rather unusual for the world of Formula 1, at the moment it seems to pay for a more conservative approach based on a slower evolution of the cars with the teams busy solving the puzzles of the Pirelli tires.

“We are bringing fewer new components than last year and are investing more resources in understanding our car,” confirmed Red Bull team boss Christian Horner.
