Rumor of an F1 GP in Vietnam denied

FIA consultant Hans Geist said the Federation has no intention of including Vietnam in the F1 calendar despite the Austrian recently visiting the country.

Geist traveled to Southeast Asia just as rumors emerged of the possible construction of a new circuit in the Nha Trang area.

“My mission is usually to inform F1 interested parties of what is needed to build an F1 track to FIA standards and organize a GP,” said Geist. “I could say that of all my meetings maybe only 10% evolve into a serious idea. In Vietnam my commitment was purely informative."

Geist instead admitted that South Africa, Bulgaria, Romania and Argentina are vying to host an F1 Grand Prix and there is also interest in a second race in China.
