Silverstone is for sale, Ecclestone could be the buyer

In a confidential letter, the head of the British Racing Drivers' Club reported his intentions to sell the circuit that will host the 2009 grand prix. The proposal, written by Robert Brooks, was addressed to the club's members of the English track , but the move could theoretically be a weapon in the hands of those eager to keep the appointment on the calendar at the Northamptonshire track.

Donington, the host circuit of the 2010 event, is also in trouble. The Guardian newspaper reports that at the top of the list of possible buyers is none other than Bernie Ecclestone.

The newspaper also reports that the BRDC, which has been part of Silverstone since 1971, continues to irritate the 78-year-old British billionaire "intensively".
