“Let's go, it's enchanting”: Pirelli puts its history on display

The photographic exhibition dedicated to Pirelli's history in motorsport was inaugurated today at the headquarters in Viale Sarca 222 in Milan.

A story that begins in 1904, with the 'Hercules' mounted on the Isotta Fraschini, and continues to the present day, with the 'PZERO' in F1, at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza which we will experience in the next few days.

The exhibition, entitled “It's enchanting…Pirelli, stories of races, riders, challenges and successes” it will be open to the public from 9 September to 14 October.

And, observing what the House has decided to make public, one gets the idea of a Great Italian History. Thanks to the many vintage images, precious documents, newspaper articles and much more, you can retrace Pirelli's path along the many decades of activity in motor sports alongside the largest manufacturers and the greatest drivers in the world .

Nuvolari, Fangio, Ascari, Farina: the 'old' photographs, in black and white, join the color ones of today in a whole that does not clash but, on the contrary, makes viewing more stimulating for the visitor. Who can appreciate, along the way, the technological advance that has affected Pirelli tires over the years.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the President Marco Tronchetti Provera. After the initial presentation, in which he recalled how Pirelli has stood alongside the greatest champions in history, the President focused on the commitment not only of Pirelli but also of other Italian companies in motorsport, for example Brembo and Magneti Marelli , praising and underlining the importance of having a good part of 'Italy' in such a technologically advanced sector.

Beyond the exhibition, there was obviously no shortage of reflections on the Italian company's return to F1. A return of which Provera is proud, just as the Team and Federation are satisfied.

The great difficulty of this return was to respect the requests received. That is, creating tires that could provide 'spectacle'. “It's easy to build tires that last an entire Grand Prix, while creating tires that last neither too little nor too long is decidedly different”.

Still regarding F1 tires, current and future, Pirelli, as reported by Paul Hembery, has brought forward some proposals, such as the elimination of the hardest compound, the one characterized by the 'grey' color (although four different compounds will probably be retained) given the growing problem of disposing of unused tyres.

Furthermore, there are rumors of a proposal for a specific compound for qualifying, which (we think) could make Saturday more interesting than the current standard. Also taking into account the habit of some time that leads some drivers not to run in Q3 to maintain a 'fresh' set of soft tires for Sunday.

A few jokes also on the mini-controversy triggered by Adrian Newey at Spa, on the concerns regarding the safety of the tires on his Red Bulls. Everything was downplayed by clarifying that the blistering problems on Vettel and Webber's cars were caused by an 'exaggerated' camber angle, certainly not by a problem with the construction of the tyres.
