Sebastian Vettel: “Hamilton was exceptional in qualifying”

Sebastian Vettel described Hamilton's performance as "exceptional" in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver beat Vettel's Red Bull by 0.038s in final qualifying.

The second Mercedes, that of Nico Rosberg, finished in fourth place, and for Vettel it is clear that Hamilton's was a sensational lap.

“At the end of the day I'm quite happy with my lap, but we weren't fast enough,” Vettel admitted.

“Obviously the Mercedes have a very strong pace in qualifying.”

“I think Lewis did an exceptional job today, if you look at Nico's gap.”

“We need to be honest and respect today's verdict.”

Vettel is quite satisfied with his qualifying laps.

“Maybe on the second attempt I was losing a little in the central sector. It's very twisty and there are a lot of corners in succession, and maybe I wasn't aggressive enough there.”

“But it's stupid now to stand here and say maybe we should have done this or that.”

The world champion doesn't think starting behind Mercedes compromises his chances of winning the race too badly.

“I would definitely like to be a little faster and on pole, but we are still in an ideal position for the race,” Vettel said.

“We have a good car and good pace for the race.”
