Sebastian Vettel critical of grid boys
The Ferrari driver claimed he wanted to speak directly to Ecclestone about the issue
They call them pit girls, grid girls. I'm one of key figures in motor sports, they are part of the entertainment. They are the girls who, by now tradition, hold the numbers or umbrellas of the pilots. Yet even Formula 1 has decided that the time has come to act one step closer, perhaps with an eye to gender equality, so much so that on the occasion of the Monaco Grand Prix, they made their debut on the starting grid i shout boys, guys, and not the traditional ones little umbrellas, who accompanied the riders on the starting straight.
It's not the first time absolute for Formula 1. It had already happened on the occasion of some editions of the European Grand Prix which started on the Valencia Street Circuit, even if on that occasion an equal number of male and female companions were present. Yet, this news did not attract the benevolence of Sebastian Vettel who did not hide everything he had in the press conference disappointment: “I will talk to Bernie about this,” the four-time Formula 1 World Champion told the Kölner Express.
Based on the latest rumors, the decision to rely on the boys has been made by the promoters of the Monaco Grand Prix. A choice politically correct, which came just a few months after the World Endurance Championship's decision to remove the protocol girls on the grid starting from 2015, a move that will also affect the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.
