Schumacher ready to fight in Canada

Michael Schumacher is enthusiastic about the idea of a double DRS zone in Montreal, a track that already has a whole host of overtaking opportunities.

So far this season, in the six Grands Prix, the circuits have all had just one DRS zone. However, for the Canadian Grand Prix, the FIA decided on two zones.

The DRS, or movable rear wing, will be available on both straights of the Montreal track.

“The circuit is very stop-and-go with high top speed sectors and heavy braking,” said seven-time world champion Schumacher.

“We also have the two DRS zones this year for the first time, so it will be interesting to see the impact this makes. It's really difficult to have an idea of how our car will perform in Montreal. There is no doubt that Monaco was a difficult weekend for the team but, as always, we will learn the lessons, to be ready to fight again in Canada.”

He added: “Montreal is a fantastic city to visit and the Canadian Grand Prix is always one of those races where the whole city gets involved and creates a really nice atmosphere.”

Its team principal, Ross Brawn, reckons that the dual DRS zone, coupled with Pirelli tire wear, looks set to give F1 fans a worthy spectacle to watch.”

“All the teams suffered, with big tire problems due to graining last year, so it will be interesting to see how the new Pirelli tires perform next weekend,” said the Mercedes GP team boss.

“It's not easy to predict whether the tire situation will follow what we experienced in 2010 or whether we will have a different situation. We have two DRS zones which will allow us to increase overtaking on a circuit where overtaking is already possible. With the DRS and tire combination, this should lead to an exciting and action-packed weekend.”
