Schumacher: “The accident with Vergne was caused by mechanical failure”
The German rear-ended the Frenchman from Toro Rosso after the safety car
di Staff23 September 2012
Michael Schumacher has stated that in his opinion the accident with Jean-Eric Vergne at the Singapore GP was caused by mechanical failure. Schumacher's Mercedes violently hit the Frenchman's Toro Rosso while braking on the restart after a Safety Car.
“After the Safety Car I braked a little earlier than usual into that corner,” Schumacher said. “The car did not decelerate and I have to investigate what happened. I braked violently, came to a lock and tried everything but the accident was now inevitable."
Schumacher apologized to Vergne: "Obviously I'm sorry for Jean-Eric, he had to retire, and also for the guys in my team but we have to understand what happened."
