Schumacher: “The absence of tests was the cause of my slow return”

Michael Schumacher he said his comeback was not successful due of the F1 testing ban during the season.

The German returned to F1 at the beginning of 2010, after three years of absence, but it has not yet risen on the podium. At the same time the Mercedes it wasn't fast enough to give the German the chance to win races.

On the other hand, his partner Nico Rosberg obtained three podiums in 2010 and beat his teammate in the world rankings in both 2010 and 2011. Schumacher admitted that the lack of testing made him struggle to get to grips with the tires and as a result he was unable to make the most of the car.

“Many have asked me if my style has changed. From the outside one should not say things without knowing the exact situation.” the German told Corriere della Sera. “I believe I could have been on the podium on a couple of occasions, no more. However, with the team we are working hard to improve performance and we are not afraid."

“In F1 there are no magic wands. In the past, many tests were done. Not now, which is why I had a lot of problems with the tyres. I didn't immediately learn to interpret them correctly. Previously I would arrive at race weekends knowing what to expect. Now the tests are Friday free practice and I'm still getting used to this system.”

Despite these problems the German had a clear improvement in 2011. His contract expires in 2012 but when asked about a renewal the German doesn't come close.

“Will I be here in 2013? There's no rush...".
