Schumacher enthusiastic about the idea of making his night debut

Michael Schumacher is enthusiastic about the idea of driving a night GP for the first time. The Singapore race will mark his debut in this type of race given his retirement in 2006.

Singapore entered the F1 calendar in 2008 and so it will be Schumacher's first time at this track having returned to racing this year.

“I have always been eager to experience new challenges and new circuits and I feel that Singapore will be an exciting adventure,” Schumacher said in a previous interview.

“I have three reasons to look forward to this weekend; it's a new circuit for me, it's a street circuit and it will be my first night race.

“Driving on a new track has never been very complicated for me and I am usually very quick to learn and find the best rhythm on the track; as a team (and here he speaks for Mercedes GP) we would really care about putting in a good performance and we will give our all to guarantee the best possible result.”

The other Mercedes driver, Nico Rosberg, is also eager to return to racing in Singapore where last year he finished the race in second position, when he was still racing for Williams.

“This race brings back good memories, because here I achieved the best placing of my career when I finished second a year ago. This track is really challenging to drive and will be a real fight again this year,” said the son of world champion Keke.

“It makes you feel like you're on a real city street, it's very narrow and enclosed by guard rails and with constant braking and acceleration that never gives the driver any respite.

“We have had some good results in the last two races, so we hope to continue in this direction and get more points next weekend in Singapore.”
