Sauber: Perez under contract is not a risk

Monisha Kaltenborn, CEO of Sauber, states that having signed a young man like Sergio Perez for the 2011 season will not represent any risk, from a human and evolutionary point of view, for the Sauber team.

The Mexican has yet to get behind the wheel of an F1 car but the good intentions are all there: second in the GP2 championship behind category winner Pastor Maldonado. This was precisely one of the main reasons why Sauber decided to hire the young man, who will join Kamui Kobayashi.

“It absolutely won't be a risk: we've seen what great satisfaction Kobayashi is giving everyone... he's also very young” – Kaltenborn told “Autosport” – “we are convinced that that boy is a talent and his second position in GP2 it shows, it's a feeling, not a certainty, because judging the level in a series like GP2 is complicated.”

“The fact that Sauber announced the agreement with Telmex does not mean that we were forced to take Perez: they have always supported him and their relationship ends there.”

Despite his young age, Kobayashi has already shown a lot, earning himself the reputation of a "kamikaze but headstrong" driver, remembering how sportingly speaking he grew up in the old continent, and from next year he will take on the role of experienced driver for the Swiss team.
