Sauber undecided on KERS for 2011
The Swiss team has not yet made a decision on the use of the kinetic energy recovery system which will be reintroduced during the next season.
Sauber is still focused on the current car, the C29, but is starting to define the basis of the project for the new single-seater. James Key, head of the project, confirmed that a decision has not yet been made: “It's certainly a possibility but we are still weighing the advantages and disadvantages.”
What is certain, however, is that the system designed by BMW will not be reused: the Bavarians had an air-cooled Kers at their disposal which entailed many disadvantages. Instead, it is possible that Sauber uses the system developed by Magneti Marelli and sold, for one million euros, by Ferrari.
The increase in the minimum weight of the cars is a concession that the Federation has made to the teams to encourage them to use KERS, Force India has spoken of an obligatory choice dictated by the obvious advantages but other small teams such as Sauber and Toro Rosso have not yet decided about.
