Sauber C30: KERS and Ferrari engine

Sauber presented the new Sauber C30 which in the team's hopes should guarantee an improvement in performance and reliability to aim permanently for the points zone.

The car which will debut on the track in Valencia tomorrow now sports a higher nose, which now seems to have become the standard for 2011 cars, and a more tapered rear end.

“Our goal in developing the Sauber C30-Ferrari was to build on the strengths of the C29 and eliminate the weak points,” said technical director James Key.

“In addition, it is also important for us to go into winter testing with a car we understand, and we have worked hard to push the characteristics of the car in a direction we believe in. There will be a lot to discover about the new Pirelli tires and in this regard we want to make sure that there are no surprises in the handling of the car."

“To take a step forward in 2011, we had already addressed the C29's weaknesses, systematically, during the season, and had made progress. The data collected was taken into consideration when designing the new C30. Since some changes imposed by the regulations, in particular regarding the tyres, can only be analyzed on the track, it was important for us to build a car that was predictable and capable of offering a sufficient degree of flexibility to respond to the data collected on the track during the of development".

The new C30 sports more tapered sides thanks to the use of vertically positioned radiators.

Sauber also opted for a single rear wing support.

Team principal Peter Sauber hopes the C30 can help the team make progress: “We want to finish in the points regularly and improve our position in the F1 constructors' championship.”

“We have never had similar reliability problems, but we managed to overcome them in the second half of the season. We have implemented some structural changes. The hiring of James Key as technical director has already borne fruit since last season and he has now taken charge of the development of the Sauber C30 Ferrari."

Sauber has confirmed that it will use the KERS supplied by Ferrari in 2011.
