In 2014 both Saubers retired in Singapore. The Swiss team is looking for a change of direction

Sauber in Singapore with a new package of updates

Having definitively closed the European parenthesis for Formula 1, the Circus is preparing to play its last part of the Championship. Unlike what you might think when seven races remaining at the end of the season, Sauber doesn't want to miss the chance to close the Constructors' Championship ahead of McLaren-Honda. The Swiss team, which currently occupies eighth position with 25 points against the 17 of the English team, for the Singapore Grand Prix it has prepared an important package of updates to debut on the C34.

If we take a look at the latest edition of the Marina Bay race, we cannot say that the Singapore race is a congenial race for the Swiss single-seaters. If in 2015 they retreated both Saubers, since 2012 the Hinwil team has failed to achieve anything more than a ninth and two tenths places.

On the occasion of the first free practice session which will take place this Friday, Sauber will have a new short muzzle and various updates concerning in particular the rear, the front wing and the side deflectors: "We cannot make predictions because even if we know what we will bring to the track, we do not have a crystal ball to know in advance the moves of our direct opponents. We have to wait and see – commented the Team Principal of the team, Monisha Kaltenborn – If in Monza we brought important innovations in terms of the engine, given the fast nature of the track, for Singapore we have developed a program that should adapt to the characteristics of the track."

After using the new Ferrari power unit introduced on the SF15-T in Canada at Monza, in the hope of not losing ground on its rivals, Sauber hopes for other engine updates before the end of the year: “For the moment I can't say anything but we are talking right now with Ferrari to understand when we might have a further update available – continued the manager of Indian origins – I believe that by the end of the season we could make the definitive leap forward”.
