Sainz: the sparks dazzle the pilots

Raise your hand if you weren't pleasantly dazzled by the final frame given to us by Bahrain Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton winner under the stars of Sakhir, accompanied by a riot of fireworks.

Even during the race there were sparks. In addition to the duels between Rosberg and the Reds, the single-seaters on the track created sparks in the true sense of the word.
Since 2014, also to increase safety behind the wheel, F1 has decided to take a dive into the past and thus return to fitting titanium plates in the rear area. The show on the track certainly gained, especially in contexts like that of the last round, where the fireworks, the dunes and the night did the rest.
However, not everyone seems to appreciate this gem old style.

“I love the sparks from the cars,” he tweeted Button from the pits, which in Bahrain he “enjoyed” – despite himself – the race as a spectator, since it was his McLaren he didn't want to leave.
On its official website, also the Red Bull published a dazzling gallery of photos from the last stage, commenting: “Welcome back sparks, welcome back”.

The one who doesn't seem too convinced by all this glitter is the rookie Carlos Sainz, who expressed conflicting opinions on the matter. “They make a good effect on TV,” commented the young Spaniard from Toro Rosso to the newspaper Trademarks, “but for us pilots they can be annoying and blind us when they hit the visor”.

    • And then would you like air conditioning and ABS? The fact that I can drive these cars without having much experience in F1 is already synonymous with the fact that these cars are much easier than 10/15 years ago... okay.

  • let's leave aside the discussion about blindness that leaves the time it finds..

but the real question is: who really likes them?

Let me explain better... a few decades ago the cars had such low bottoms that they bulged and made sparks...

on current cars this doesn't happen because the cars are quite high from the ground..

they make sparks only because they have fitted strips on the cars that rub on the ground...

In my opinion, artificial sparks have no appeal...

if artificial lights are really cool, at this point, as far as I'm concerned, they could very well fit colored neon lights too..

I hope you understood the underlying thought of my speech.

    • Remember that a good 70/80% of F1 "fans" stop at what they see.
In fact, I have read many positive comments.
Frankly, I'm not as confused as you are, in my opinion there are more serious problems and beyond everything I hope to see a great Ferrari - Mercedes fight... the rest is rubbish

      • It's true: in F1 there are more serious problems (quite a few) and they should therefore dedicate themselves to these, rather than inventing nonsense like this and like the DRS.

  • Sparks have always made me shit, a part of the car that forcibly slides on the asphalt should be avoided, and the final effect is absolutely stupid.

  • I honestly like them, the F1s no longer have flat bottoms for safety, but an F1 can be recognized for things that other categories don't do, sparks are welcome! (The pilots of the 90s never complained and were surrounded by sparks) I hope flames come back from the exhausts and deafening noises!
Of course the negative comments make me laugh, you argue against an unspectacular F1 and when there's something new you complain....bbbhaaa

    • Yes, their point of view is that of those who say that it is against nature (of f1) to produce an artificial effect. That is, they don't like the overtaking produced by the DRS (and I don't agree here), they don't like the sparks produced with the titanium panel, and they certainly wouldn't like an artificial amplification of the roar of the engines and so on.

  • Rosberg's overtaking on Vettel (pictured) would probably have been less spectacular without the sparks
