Rosberg: “A difficult race, happy with second place”

Nico Rosberg saw his victory at the Canadian GP slip away but can still smile at the end of a difficult race for Mercedes, struggling with serious problems with the hybrid system in the final stages. Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire while Rosberg finished in second place, extending his lead over the Englishman in the standings to 22 points.

“I lost the energy recovery system and therefore the braking system was no longer balanced” commented Rosberg. “At the same time I had to defend myself but I managed to stay calm and keep the group chasing me behind me but in the end Daniel passed me. I congratulate Daniel, it's great for him but not for me but it's still good. However, I collected a good amount of points. So much happened in this race, in the end I'm also happy with the result. We collected a lot of points despite all the problems experienced by myself and Lewis. It was really tough, we had brake problems right from the start so all in all I can be happy with second place. After Lewis' retirement I was worried but I still had faith in the team, they always have an overview of the situation by reading the telemetry data and therefore we adopted safer settings to get to the end."
