Rosberg: “It would be tough to be in Alonso's situation”

What would Nico Rosberg do if he suddenly left a winning team like Mercedes to join one that, at the moment, couldn't allow him to win races? After spending practically two years on the crest of a wave with the German team, the son of art admitted that it would be a situation extremely hard to face if what Fernando Alonso is experiencing with McLaren becomes clear to him.

Although Rosberg now has a single-seater that allows him to clearly win Grand Prix, so much so that last year he ended the season with the title of vice-world champion, before arriving to demonstrate his qualities to everyone, Nico is a rider who has suffered. After making his debut in Formula 1, in Williams, with the promise labelHowever, luck did not smile on him either at Sir Frank's court, or even during his first years in Mercedes with Ross Brawn.

“I always knew that my time would come. I have never had a car at my disposal that would allow me to win races but, if due to some unfortunate episode I had to go back, a bit like what happened to Alonso in McLaren, I'm not sure I'll be able to overcome the situation because it's too good to win,” commented the Mercedes driver to his colleagues at the Allgemeine Zeitung.

The 30-year-old isn't particularly frustrated by Hamilton's league lead, preferring to highlight the technical and sporting progress who has shown that he can catch up with Mercedes in these five years, from Ross Brawn to Toto Wolff: “Even if they don't say it, they are sure that everyone respects our work. Michael Schumacher and I went through a really complex moment at the beginning of the Mercedes project but then we started to reap the fruits winning races and dominating the last two seasons – he continued – During our first three years we suffered a lot and I can say this because I shared everything with the Mercedes guys, from the first days. It's a pleasure to see where we've come."
