ROC | Race of Champions returns with historic first edition in Australia

ROC – After a year off, the Race of Champions (RoC) will return in 2025 with a historic debut in Australia, scheduled for March 7-8 in Sydney. It will be the first time the event has been held in the Southern Hemisphere, specifically in one of the city's most iconic venues, the Accor Stadium, built for the 2000 Summer Olympics. The return of the RoC also marks the reintroduction of the stadium format, which will offer a completely different spectacle to the 2023 edition, which took place in Piteå, Sweden, amid snow and ice.

Unlike the harsh winter conditions of Sweden, the warm Australian summer will be the stage for the competition in Sydney, creating a completely different atmosphere for motorsport fans. Australia is therefore preparing to host a high-profile event, ready to capture the attention of millions of spectators.

Race of Champions Numbers

Historically, Germany holds the record for the Nations Cup with eight victories, six of which were consecutive from 2007 to 2012, thanks to the legendary pairing of Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher. For the 2025 edition, there is speculation that Vettel could return to the track, probably teaming up with Mick Schumacher, given the four-time world champion's renewed interest in motorsport, fueled by recent testing with the Porsche 963 in the WEC. The event is strategically placed in the calendar, just one week before the start of the Formula 1 season, with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, around 800 kilometres from Sydney.

The expected protagonists

The proximity could see some of F1’s current stars take part, such as local talent Oscar Piastri, coached by former champion Mark Webber. Among those already confirmed is V8 Supercars legend Jamie Whincup, who expressed his excitement for the occasion: “I’m really excited to be part of the RoC driver line-up in 2025. It will be special to race in Sydney. I’ll give my all for the Australian fans.”
