Ricciardo: “We're working to get to the front”

Daniel Ricciardo drops from sixth to twelfth position on the first day of Free Practice, but the newly hired Red Bull driver is certain that the Mercedes are not that far away on the Montreal Circuit.
Although once again the Silver Arrows have shown that they are a step above their opponents, the Australian believes that with the car ready at the right point, the challenge can also extend outside the walls of Mercedes.

“There are some teams that can fight, if not for the front row, certainly for the second,” said Ricciardo. “We need to make sure we can do everything we can to stay ahead; we didn't do it today but we are working on it."

The driver of the Austrian team declared that he did not feel particularly comfortable with the car on Friday. “I was a little surprised. Obviously we hoped to go further in the standings but I didn't feel right with the car and at the same time we didn't feel like we were within 1.5 seconds...".

“We need to understand some things, but the good thing is that Sebastian has shown he can be fast. The point is to understand where we are compared to him and where we can intervene, trying to gain positions"
