Renault, Palmer: “It's hard to do all those average laps”

Fourteenth and seventeenth positions for Jolyon Palmer and Kevin Magnussen in the Mexican Grand Prix, the third to last round of the 2016 Formula One World Championship. The Englishman from Renault, who started, we remember, from last place due to the chassis breaking during free practice three, concluded a careful and error-free race, recovering positions with the strategy studied on the medium compounds. However, a subdued performance for the former Mclaren Dane, never fighting for the points during this Mexico GP.

Here are the words of Jolyon Palmer: “Considering the non-qualification on Saturday and the problems experienced during Friday, I have to say that fourteenth position is not that bad. We finished a good race despite starting from the back and I am absolutely satisfied with my performance. The strategy with the medium compounds certainly helped us and doing all those laps wasn't easy, but in the end we got the most out of a difficult weekend."

Here are Kevin Magnussen's impressions: “We suffered the same problems as Austin with the softer compounds. We never had the pace to keep up with the cars in front of us and we absolutely need to understand why. We structured our strategy with the aim of being aggressive, but we were unable to take advantage of the soft compounds and this penalized us heavily. We hope to understand where this problem lies and to be able to obtain a better result in Brazil."
