Renault, Magnussen: “Impossible to do more”

“Double face” qualifying for Renault on the Hermanos Rodriguez track in Mexico City. At the end of Q2, in fact, Kevin Magnussen managed to grab fourteenth place, pulling off a great lap despite the grip problems of the RS16. A different story however for Jolyon Palmer, out due to a chassis failure which occurred during the final minutes of FP3.

Here are the words of Kevin Magnussen: “I'm quite satisfied with my qualification and realistically it was impossible to do more. Free practice three was very difficult due to the higher temperatures and the same problem recurred in qualifying. My lap was good and I think I didn't make any mistakes, but thirteenth position here was impossible for us. We did our best."

Here are the words of Jolyon Palmer: “Unfortunately we didn't take part in the qualifying due to a mechanical problem that arose at the end. Between free practice and qualifying there wasn't enough time to get the car back on track and it was a real shame, especially because we could have done well here. During free practice three I went out onto the curb of Turn 11 and felt a bump. At first I didn't think it was anything serious, but the guys discovered the damaged frame. We will fight to do our best."
