Renault: preparation for the Spanish GP has begun

The Renault F1 team began preparations for the Spanish GP yesterday in Barcelona. Nelson Piquet Jr completed the first of four days of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya, completing 91 laps, the fastest in 1.21.913. The team tried several upgrades of the R28. The young Brazilian spent the day testing these innovations and completing the general set-up work in preparation for the Grand Prix.

The team will continue its program for the rest of the week, Fernando Alonso will join the team for two days while Nelson will return to action on Thursday.

Nelson Piquet:
"It was another good day's work. The track conditions were good so there were no problems and the morning was productive. Unfortunately I lost some time in the afternoon so I didn't do all the laps I needed. I would have liked to. We tried a few new things but we will do the most interesting work in the next few days."

Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer:
"The morning program went very well, it was a solid day's work with only one delay around lunchtime. The car is running very well and the factory has put a lot of effort into preparing it for this week. We just have to keep working like this for the rest of the week."
