Renault: Heidfeld confirmed as Kubica's replacement

Renault has confirmed that Nick Heidfeld will be Robert Kubica's replacement this F1 season, starting with this week's Barcelona test.

Heidfeld earned his place at Lotus Renault GP after impressing the team during its test at the Jerez circuit.

“I would have liked to return to F1 under different circumstances, but I am proud to have had this chance,” said Heidfeld. “It all happened quickly, I've been impressed by what I've seen so far in Enstone in terms of the structure and dedication of the people. I really enjoyed last week's test in Jerez and have already settled in well with the guys on the track. I have a good feeling with the car, which is very innovative. I am extremely motivated and can't wait for the season to start” added the German who will race together with the Russian Vitaly Petrov.

“The team has had a very difficult couple of weeks and had to react quickly,” said team principal Eric Boullier. “We gave Nick a chance in Jerez last week and he really impressed us. He's fast, he's experienced and he's very strong technically with his feedback and his understanding of the car. We have always said that the priority was to have an experienced driver and we feel he is the ideal man for this job. We are delighted to welcome Nick to the team and look forward to the start of the season with him and Vitaly in Bahrain.”
