When there is a crisis, it is there for everyone and the reduction of costs in Formula One has certainly not spared the drivers' salaries. The Milanese magazine "Chi" collected an interview with Flavio Briatore, in which the Italian admitted that the current salary of the two-time Spanish world champion has decreased by about a third.
Fernando Alonso earned around 13 million euros, but in 2009 the Asturian will only earn 8. The cuts made to Nelson Piquet Jr's salary are not known, but his pay is estimated at around 270.000 euros.
