Red Bull, Newey: “These factors prevented one team from dominating”

Adrian Newey has admitted it is becoming increasingly difficult to make improvements to the performance of next season's car. Furthermore, given that there are not many new features introduced in next year's regulations, the teams will try to perfect the cars.

Red Bull has dominated under the new regulations which have been in place since 2009, winning the drivers' and constructors' world titles three times in four years.

“It's increasingly difficult because there are no real regulatory changes compared to this year and it will be the fifth season since the 2009 rule change,” said Adrian Newey to Autosport.

“The field has converged and you can see how competitive it has been by the fact that we have had eight different winners this year.”

Six different teams have won races including Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Lotus.

“It's a demonstration of how critical the situation is now,” he has declared.

“The tyres, which have been talked about a lot, are very important and we have seen how a car makes the tires work differently than its rivals.”

“Sometimes, a specific track and temperature may suit a particular car over another.”

“Whether it's a circuit with high-speed corners like Silverstone or vice versa like Abu-Dhabi, for example.”

“These factors prevented one team from dominating.”

Newey added that the 2013 car, the RB9, will be nothing more than an evolutionary step of the current single-seater.

“There will be no surprises, next year's car will be an evolution of this year's,” has explained.
