Red Bull: Newey will not copy Renault exhausts
Adrian Newey has ruled out the possibility of copying Renault's innovative front exhaust system.
“We had heard over the winter that Renault were working on something like this, but we wasted no time developing something like them. We decided to focus on our project because we knew it would work,” said the English Red Bull coach.
In fact, other teams such as Ferrari, McLaren and Sauber have all followed Red Bull's solution.
Gerard Lopez, Lotus team boss, said he was confident that the innovative R31 could be competitive enough to win a race this year: “The objective of regularly podiuming has been achieved, for everyone else it depends on the Red Bull, who is very fast. But perhaps on some tracks like Monaco and the Hungaroring we will be able to fight for the victory.”
He then revealed that he had asked the designer James Allison and Eric Boullier, in the winter, to look for a new, revolutionary path: “It seemed to me to be the only way to change the existing hierarchies.”
