Red Bull: Marko denies agreements with Volkswagen in F1

Helmut Marko has denied rumors of a forthcoming deal between Red Bull and Volkswagen to supply F1 engines. Last week Red Bull's motorsport director declared that the Austrian team "will decide on the future engine partner" at the next Austrian GP.

“Volkswagen is already ready in other categories, with engines similar to the technology for F1,” he reportedly told the Sport Bild newspaper. But while admitting that Red Bull is not happy with Renault, Marko played down the Volkswagen rumours.

“That news was completely invented,” the Austrian told Die Welt newspaper. “Our goal is to work with Renault to reach a first decision at the Austrian GP; we will put our data on the table and then together we will develop a plan to continue in 2015 or find a better way to improve the current situation as quickly as possible. This is the reality” explained Marko.

The Austrian does not hide his disappointment with Renault's situation in 2014: “There are big problems not only for us but also for other Renault-powered teams” he added, denying Red Bull's desire to proceed legally against the French manufacturer: “ It's nonsense. We are not suing anyone, let alone Renault. We're just complaining about the engine performance. We also complained that Renault admitted glaring deficits too late during pre-season testing. The situation has improved but it is not enough. We must be able to win, and this is the same objective that Renault also has."
