Red Bull: Infiniti engine hypothesis from 2015

It is no secret that Red Bull has not yet decided whether to continue racing in F1 with Renault engines starting from 2015. The problems suffered by the French engineer in the winter and in the first races of the season have pushed the world champion team to look for of alternatives.

However, an agreement with rivals Mercedes and Ferrari appears unlikely, while Honda will exclusively supply its turbo V6s to McLaren and is not yet ready to power other customer teams. For Red Bull the possibility of an agreement with Volkswagen therefore remains but the German company has not yet decided whether to enter F1 and in any case 2015 would now be too close. Another rumor concerns the possibility of a Red Bull engine.

“Nothing is impossible” commented Helmut Marko to Auto Motor und Sport. The German magazine also reveals some details of the project. Red Bull already has a fundamental role in the production of the power unit batteries. And Renault's turbocharger is supplied by APC Pankl, an Austrian company. The internal combustion engine of the future Red Bull power unit would be built by AVL, an Austrian company located not far from the Red Bull Ring and which has recently become known for Toro Rosso's now famous secret treadmill test at the Graz facility.

Finally, Red Bull could count on the collaboration of Infiniti: the Japanese company could contribute to the budget and know-how on electric motors thanks to the link with Nissan. The power unit could actually be branded Infiniti.
