Red Bull: Horner tired of the controversy over the front wing
Christian Horner said he was tired of the controversy triggered by McLaren over the front wing of the Red Bull RB7, calling the flexibility of the component "an obvious science". Last year the flexible wings were at the center of numerous rants and 2011 has started in similar fashion with rival teams busy questioning the legality of the Red Bull solution.
In this sense, McLaren did not hold back. Lewis Hamilton said in Malaysia: “Our wing has always had that distance from the ground…their wing is on the asphalt!”.
Even according to Jenson Button the Red Bull winger may not be regular: "Several people I've spoken to think he flexes more than allowed."
“We don't have to pass a McLaren test, we have to pass the FIA test, and the wing passes it completely,” Horner commented annoyed. “McLaren have developed a car with very low ground clearance at the rear, and so a low front wing doesn't work for them. Due to the angle we use on our car it is inevitable that when the rear of the car is higher, the front is closer to the ground. It's an obvious science, and in any case our wings are completely regular."
