The Finn: "The podium was nice, but we would have preferred to get it on the track"

Raikkonen gets on the podium in Germany after Vettel's penalty

Kimi Raikkonen, thanks to Sebastian Vettel's 20" penalty following his irregular overtaking on Jenson Button, gains a position and finishes on the podium from fourth, the 66th of his career.

“It's nice to have another podium, but obviously we would have preferred to get it on the track”, Raikkonen said after the news. “Having said that I think we did our best today from the starting position. Maybe if we had found the pace a little more in the wet yesterday we could have started higher, avoided the traffic and pushed the leaders, but that's what we have to take. We were hoping for a better pace but the car worked well throughout the race and we still brought home some good points for the team so there are some positives to follow for the next race.". The result allowed Raikkonen to move to fourth place in the championship with 98 points.

Romain Grosjean, on the other hand, ended a weekend to forget in 18th place: “We were behind from the start, after yesterday's penalty nothing went well today either”, commented the Frenchman. “It was a shame because I had a good start at the start and gained a few places at the first corner, then on the straight there was a contact and at that point the race was practically ruined for me. I don't know exactly what happened, but my car was badly damaged with a broken front wing and a puncture. After several seconds I managed to return to the pits and everything was compromised. You never want to have these kinds of weekends, but they happen. It will make us think that the next race will be better.", concluded the transalpine.
