Raikkonen: “I have good memories of this track”

Kimi Raikkonen, one of only four drivers on the grid to have previously raced in Formula 1 at this track, seemed happy to be in Spielberg when he spoke to journalists this afternoon. “First of all I want to say that I am happy to be back competing in Europe!”, began the Scuderia Ferrari driver. “This is a nice place to come to, and I have to say that quite a few new things have been built. I have good memories of this circuit and I think it could be very suitable for racing. His design makes overtaking possible and for this reason I can say I'm happy to be here. I think this track should suit our characteristics more than Canada which, together with Bahrain, was the most difficult Grand Prix for us. At the moment, however, I'm just making assumptions. We have to wait to see what happens tomorrow."

Last weekend a Ferrari won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in its category and Raikkonen was asked if he would be interested in taking on the challenge of this race: “I like racing in cars and Le Mans is one of those competitions that could be in top of the list of those to win, given that it is very prestigious” – replied the Finn – “We have to see what will happen, but this race certainly arouses a certain interest in me. At the moment, however, I would say that it is still too early to talk about it. I would also like to try Rallycross because it seems genuine and fun. I really like Rallycross, it's a difficult sport, with some good battles, but Le Mans is probably more similar to Formula 1. However, it's always nice to try something different because you can have fun and there's always something to learn." .

Kimi also had some nice words for the new Team Principal of the Scuderia, Marco Mattiacci: “Everyone has their own way of doing things and these are the first days for Marco” – said Kimi – “He is a very pleasant guy who intends really make a difference. There are encouraging signs and a lot of work is being done behind the scenes. I think sometimes it's good when someone comes from outside Formula 1, because he brings a different vision of things. I believe he will be able to do an excellent job."
