Austrian GP qualifying, Palmer: "The race strategy is an unknown"
Everyone at Renault is thinking about the strategy for tomorrow's race
The qualifications of Renault Austrian Grand Prix were almost ordinary, the French team in fact placed both cars in the lower part of the ranking, furthermore the red flag caused by Kvyat at the end of the session it prevented the drivers from being able to attempt passage to Q2.
Kevin Magnussen – seventeenth: “My time could have been a few tenths lower but I made a mistake on the last corner, but in any case I don't think it would have improved much, this position respects our qualifying potential. We are trying to improve and for now we have done what we can. Tomorrow I feel that we will be a little closer to the positions that count and I hope that some particular event such as rain or the Safety Car can give us some opportunities. So let's keep our fingers crossed!”
Jolyon Palmer – eighteenth: “Without the red flag, the yellow flag caused by Sainz and a set of new tires I think that with a perfect lap we could have made it to Q2. This weekend I feel the car better, it is more consistent and stable but obviously we didn't do enough. The race strategy is an unknown as the new asphalt is leading to greater degradation, and in particular the ultrasofts lose performance quickly, however we will be ready to seize any opportunity."
Alan Stays: “We worked a lot for qualifying, but the red flag in the final part and the subsequent yellow at the restart made everything frustrating. Both drivers had the potential to get more from their cars and Q2 was therefore not impossible. Tomorrow promises to be an interesting race. The new asphalt has led to very high degradation and therefore it is very unlikely that we will see one-stop strategies. Furthermore, ultrasoft tires allow different combinations in terms of strategy. Yesterday's rain also prevented all the teams from collecting data on the tires so there is the possibility that the strategies will evolve during the race. The temperature will also be colder but without rain, so we have to think about many things.”
