Prodrive interested in buying Cosworth

Prodrive boss David Richards has admitted he is interested in taking over F1 engine maker Cosworth. It emerged last week that the engine supplier to HRT and Marussia, currently owned by Gerry Forsythe and Kevin Kalkhoven, is for sale.

Richards, Prodrive's majority shareholder, told the Daily Mail: "We have only just started to look at Cosworth although I believe they have set the price too high at the moment as I understand they don't own the brand and will be out of Formula 1 within 12 months. However, it's worth a look,” he added.

According to paddock rumors Cosworth, having entered the aerospace and defense sector, having lost major customers with Williams and Caterham in F1, will be out of F1 when the current V8s are stopped by the rules at the end of next year.

Cosworth declined to comment on the report.
