Pirelli satisfied with the tests, same tires for F1 and GP2 in 2011

The Pirelli tires supplied to Formula 1 teams next year will be essentially the same as those they will race in GP2. Nick Heidfeld completed a two-day test at the wheel of a white Toyota TF109 on Wednesday. It was thought to be the first track outing of a prototype Pirelli F1 tire but it was learned that the tires had in fact been tested on a GP2 Dallara a few weeks ago.

The July test at Paul Ricard had not attracted particular attention as there was no thought of a possible close relationship between the Pirelli GP2 tires and those of F1.

Ben Hanley, an English driver, also ran at Mugello at the wheel of a 2 specification GP2011, also with Pirelli livery and experimental tyres.

“We are in line with the objectives and after this test we have a lot of data to analyze, it is exactly the situation we hoped to be in” declared Paul Hembery, head of Pirelli's sports programs.
