Pirelli promotes tire developments

The low temperatures on the Montmelò track certainly did not slow down Pirelli's extensive tire development work. The Milanese manufacturer completed all the programs planned for this last pre-season test session in Spain as best as possible, remaining very satisfied with the work carried out over the winter. Paul Hembery promoted all the developments launched over the last six months, explaining that the new construction of the rear tires has influenced the significant reduction in times.

Here are the words of Paul Hembery: “Barcelona represented the final opportunity for the teams to evaluate the interaction between our new tires and the 2015 cars which, as we all noticed, appear to be significantly faster than last year. We saw a difference of two seconds, and this gap could be even greater for the softer compounds. As a result, the way the tires interact with the cars has changed, which will have an effect on the set-up."

“Although on some days - He continued - we have had track temperatures reaching 31 degrees centigrade, conditions have generally been much colder than those typically encountered in most races. This difference in conditions is another factor that must be taken into consideration, particularly for hard ones. In Barcelona the teams were able to test the entire 2015 Pirelli range which features a new rear construction and a new supersoft compound."

“The best test time was 2 and a half seconds faster than last year's pole. Although there was some rain, the intermediate tires were tested very little. Compared to last year, it is clear that most of the teams are already ready to face the upcoming season." he concluded.
