Pirelli, Hembery: “The new tire regulation has brought benefits”
Starting this season, drivers can choose 10 of the 13 sets available for each race weekend
Paul Hembery praised the new tire regulations, which came into force this season. An innovation that allows the various drivers to have greater freedom from a decision-making and strategic point of view, choosing 10 of the 13 sets made available in each race weekend by the Milanese tire company.
“We as Pirelli, the teams themselves and the FIA have tried to find a common solution – declared the head of Pirelli Motorsport to F1i.com – that was good for everyone. In the first three events we saw how the use of the three compounds has generated scenarios that were unthinkable in the recent past. The introduction of this new regulation has generated lively competitions".
With this new format, each individual driver has the opportunity to change their strategy even during the race: “Let's think about Nico Rosberg – Hembery said – and to both tactics in China. I thought you would do a three-stop GP, with the final stint on supersoft. Instead he chose the medium tyres, thanks to the excellent second stint performed on the soft tyres".
"With this system centered on the three compounds, races are difficult to predict. Why the evolution of the track can upset the scenarios".
