Pirelli, Hembery: “We could also see new speed records in Monza”

During this weekend the Formula 1 will move to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix, fourteenth appointment of the calendar.

You arrive at Monza, the track known as the "Temple of Speed“, where the single-seaters reach 360 km/h thanks also to specific low-load configurations, settings that are specific for this race. For this race, Pirelli chose the medium, soft and supersoft compounds: with the new regulation adopted in 2016, the Milanese company had to adopt a third compound per event which, in this case, is the supersoft.

Commenting on the choices and possible strategies is Paul Hembery, director of Pirelli Motorsport: “Monza comes straight after Spa, two epic circuits in just one week, but for us the home race is always the most special. It will be a busy weekend, with the supersofts in action for the first time in Monza we could also see new speed records, especially in qualifying. Last year most drivers opted for a one-stop strategy, but the arrival of the supersofts could lead to more pit stops."

For this Grand Prix, we remember, it will be mandatory to use the medium and soft compounds in the race.
